On August 13th, after multiple doctor visits, lab tests and emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor, our sweet baby Florence Nam was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, the most common cancerous brain tumor in children. All Medulloblastomas are categorized as Stage IV and require immediate and aggressive treatment.
Despite having a successful surgery that removed the mass in her brain, 23-month old Florence must undergo a six-month cycle of chemotherapy at Children's Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). The chemotherapy cycles will require hospital stays every month, with a few weeks at home to recover, barring any issues.

Due to the pandemic, CHLA has implemented a strict one-parent policy so Eugenia and Rich will be taking turns staying with her during the course of her treatment. In addition to the demands of caring for Flo, Eugenia is also pregnant with their second child due in December (It's a boy!), and continuing to stay engaged in her role at Keck Medicine USC where she is a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Given the circumstances, Rich has taken on the role of super dad to attend the bulk of medical appointments for lab draws and IV infusions with Florence at a minimum, 3 times a week.
Anyone who knows Eugenia and Rich knows that they are the most selfless, thoughtful people who would drop everything to help a loved one in need. And despite the invasive tests and grueling treatments, Florence has remained fearless, curious, and upbeat. Looking ahead at what Florence will be facing is daunting to say the least, but Eugenia and Rich are ready to do whatever it takes to get Florence back home and healthy.

Florence is turning 2 on September 17th, 2020. Instead of having a birthday party to celebrate with her friends and family, Florence will be starting her second round of chemo to fight for her life. In honor of her birthday, we're starting this fundraiser so that Florence can continue to get the best care possible, without Eugenia and Rich having to worry about the financial burden on their own. Thankfully, their health insurance will cover some of Florence's medical bills, but with the expected number of in-hospital stays (40+ days for the first of 6 planned chemo treatments), it is anticipated that Rich and Eugenia will be covering a significant portion of Florence's medical bills on their own.
We know this has been a difficult year for everyone, and so many of you have already reached out to the Nam family to show your incredible love and support. We can't thank you enough. This is just the beginning of a long, difficult journey ahead, and they will continue to need your love and support. If you can, please continue to keep Florence, Eugenia, and Rich in your thoughts and prayers, and cheer them on as baby Florence fights on.
Thank you,
Friends & family of Team Florence
