Hello I have started this GoFundMe on behalf of Colin and his family. (With permission from Colin's mother.) I have this set as a team, and only his mother has access to any funds raised.
If you have not met Colin or his family, I'll explain a little bit of a back story. Colin is a 15 year old spunky, so very sweet young boy, who at birth was diagnosed with a very rare condition called Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS for short. (Here is a link explaining this condition)
As with many other syndromes, individuals with CdLS strongly resemble one another. Typical facial features include thin eyebrows that meet in the middle, long eyelashes, a short upturned nose, and thin downturned lips.
Other characteristics include low birth weight (often under five pounds), slow growth, small stature, and small head size. Other features may include excessive body hair and small hands and feet. Common medical issues include gastro- esophageal reflux disease, heart defects, seizures, feeding difficulties, vision problems, and hearing loss. Limb differences, including missing arms, forearms or fingers, are seen in about 25 percent of individuals with CdLS. Behavioral and communication issues and developmental delays also exist.
Colin is 15 years old and has had many hospital stays. This one, unfortunately is much more complicated.
Usually people who have CdLs tend to have shorter life spans, pneumonia is very prevalent and the complications from it are usually the cause of loss of life, in people (children especially) who are diagnosed with CdLS.
Colin has beat pneumonia and its complications every time, there have been many scares. He is the definition of a true fighter. But then again his parents are as well, so he learned from the best.
The other night Colin sustained a head injury. Traumatic brain injury is the current diagnosis. It has caused significant brain hemmoraging and swelling. He had to have emergency brain surgery, and they decided to leave off part of his skull to hopefully keep the swelling from doing more damage.
Currently, Colin is in the ICU, considered non-responsive and is on life support. His prognosis is very slim. The emergency surgery to save his life, has caused other issues though..
As Colin is a minor, he has to have a parent (POA) there at all times. His mother and father both work full time jobs on opposite shifts so that Colin receives care 24/7, he does not have in home care outside of his parents/ other family members and occasionally some family friends.
With his current prognosis so poor, both of his parents have taken off work and are currently with him. It is currently a wait and see situation.. The doctors and specialists are not hopeful.
If you have a child, please put yourself in their situation. Its literally the worst thing a parent could endure.
I have set this go fund me up, because currently it is not known in which direction things will go. His parents may have to be available at the hospital for quite some time on end. We are hoping, and steadily praying that Colin can come home. If he is, by Gods mercy and grace able to pull through and come home, things will not be the same as they were before.
I humbly ask you to please join in prayer and support for this entire family. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting Colin can only love him. As you can see from the pictures his smile, instantly brings others joy. He lights up any room.
The last thing his parents need to worry about right now is keeping bills going, medical costs, gas for back and forth (they also have other sons, 1 son is a few years younger than Colin) and food/ other necessities while being out of town at the hospital. If God decides to bring Colin to his home, then the funds raised will help assist that process.
Colin is non verbal and is only able to walk with use of his Walker.
They have completely "proofed" their house more than most would require. But after all of the safety measures that they took, he was able to injure himself to a much worse extent.
If you have, or know of a child with special needs, you know the constant worry, time, and sacrifices made by the caregivers just to maintain.
If you are a local parent/ caregiver of a special needs child, then you probably know Colin and his family already. As Chris, (Colin's mom) has been a huge advocate for all special needs children. She has made huge waves in standing up for disability rights. She has also been a huge part of Easter Seals UCP for many years. Currently she works at a home for disabled adults. Anyone who has been a caregiver/ relative of a caregiver of disabled/ special needs children and adults know what all is entailed in being in that role. It takes a very special person to do this.
Chris has dedicated many years to caregiving, especially the special needs population.
If you have read this far, I cant thank you enough. If you are able to spare (even $1 would be greatly appreciated) for a donation to help this family in the worst possible situation, they would be eternally grateful.. as would I.
If you are not able to donate, if you could please pray for this family, send good thoughts and vibes that would mean the world to them all as well. And please, please share his story.
Thank you in advance if you are able to donate, pray or share this story. I didn't know what "goal" would be needed, go fund me suggested $10,000. So I just went with it. If and as things change Chris can change the amount for the goal. Any little bit helps, again thank you so much.
This family has been hit with hurdles left and right, for so long. When faced with each new challenge they confront it hand in hand. If we can help at all, that is the goal.
Any parent would rather be in their childs place in these situations. With all they have on their plate currently, this can hopefully alleviate some of the stress.
I am now handing this over to Colin's mom, Christina (Chris)
But I just want to thank you for your time reading.
Prayers are needed just as much as anything else. So thank you all so much for your thoughts, prayers, and unbelievable generosity thus far.
Edited to add:
My business and myself are also accepting donations on behalf of Colin and his family, please put a note of "for colin" in with the donation so we know it's for this. Every penny goes to support the mounting costs this family is having to endure, while still having to be out of work and preparing for his hopeful homecoming. They have decided to try and keep money aside. In case he is unable to pull through, for those arrangements.

For cashapp and PayPal please put a note of "Colin" or "for Colin".
You can also make a donation on our website: fireelectronicsandrepair.com
These 3 other options dont have as many fees as the GoFundMe page takes, so more of your donation goes to them.
Also,
I was asked by someone (who really wanted to donate but they do not have any credit/debit cards to use to donate via the online platforms.
If they could send gift cards/ hallmark cards. I think that is an amazing idea, and would be so appreciated.. if you also want to go that route.
Gift cards for gas stations, grocery stores (food lion and Walmart are local to their home and the hospital that they are at, fast food restaurants etc are wonderful ways to help, if it's more convenient for you. Send me a message, and I can get you the address to mail it to, or I can meet you. I'm currently visiting them every few days, and will take anything donated to them. No donation is too small. And everything is so appreciated.
Even If you have an old giftcard, and dont want it, literally everything is so much appreciated for them.
Please continue praying for strength and love
