Fight for Baby Jake

At just 3 weeks old Jacob was admitted to Memorial hospital with respiratory issues. He was diagnosed with Laryngomalacia  and deemed unsafe to eat by bottle through the mouth. They placed a feeding tube and sent us home. Not only 48 hours later he was unable to keep food down and was having major breathing difficulty. We made a trip to the ER where they gave him breathing treatments and steroids. We were admitted again where they placed him on a feeding pump to slow the rate of which he was getting food. A week later they sent us home in which we spent days and nights taking care of him. After being home a week he was no longer holding his feeds down and we visited with the GI Dr who sent us back to be admitted for a 3rd time to the hospital. By now he had shown severe symptoms of his condition and hadn't gained any weight. We met with a specialized ENT Dr as well as a Lung Dr who wanted to do surgery. He underwent a Laryngoscopy and a Supraglottoplasty. It will be a long road to recovery and a long road to full health. 

Being that his condition will not get better over night we have a lot of follow ups with multiple specialists in the next few months. He is not our only child, he is a twin to Elizabeth and they have an older sister Charlotte who is almost 2 years old. Mom and dad have their hands full and need as much help to be able to care for their littles, especially Jacob.   UPDATE: Jacob went through a second surgery putting a gastric tube directly into his belly to allow a less risky way to feed at home. He did so well they finally sent us home to be with his sisters. Dad has been working tirelessly to allow mom to stay home and care for the kiddos especially Jake who needs lots of extra love. He’s currently hooked up to a high flow oxygen machine, heart/respiratory/oxygen monitors and his feeding pump. He’s on 6 different medications and on the road to recovery. He needs lots of time to grow and get stronger so he can soon run around with his sisters. We thank everyone for their love and support and will keep you updated with more great news!
