I am a friend and past coworker of Kayla Gill. Helping her sweet boy, Carter and her family is a priority.
Carters Story:
Carter was diagnosed with gastroschisis (abdominal wall opens and baby's bowel develops outside the babys body) at 12 weeks gestation. We thought it wouldn't be as a complex case. When Carter was born he has atresias (abnormal narrowing) that needed to be repaired so he was given an ileostomy. (Huge win!) We were suppose to bring him home with his ileostomy until it was time to reconnect but a week before getting to come home he developed NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis) and now all but a few cm of his small intestine is dead. The only hope is that the surgeon at Cincinnati children's will be able to grow parts of the duodenum and it will grow enough to connect to the colon. If it doesn't help he will have to receive a transplant. They expect Carter to be in the hospital months to years.
Kayla and Jacob has 4 children at home as well. They both are taking time to dedicate towards Carters needs at the hospital and their children at home. One parent is allowed at the hospital at a time, making family time and memories difficult.
We are raising money for her, to help with hospital bills, gas, food and other needs they have.
