Hope for Bachir and his children

Bachir is a devoted father of three in Dakar, Senegal, now fighting lung cancer after the tragic loss of his wife, Astou. He is working to keep his family together and his dream of a farm-to-table business alive, but he urgently needs help to afford treatment.

I first met Bachir during a college study abroad, and he quickly became a lifelong friend, and more recently, my business partner. Bachir and his wife, Astou, poured their hearts into building a farm-to-table culinary experience in Dakar. They raise chickens to supply their food truck. Their dream was to share the richness of Senegalese food and hospitality with the world.

Then tragedy struck. Astou was killed in a car accident, leaving Bachir to raise their three children alone while keeping their dream alive. In her honor, we rebranded the business as La Flamme d’Astou, to carry forward her passion, strength, and love.

Now, just as he has taken on the role of both parents and worked tirelessly for his family’s future, Bachir faces another battle: lung cancer. The cost of treatment is beyond what he can afford, and without it, his children risk losing the steady presence of their only parent.
