My name is Jessica, and I'm creating a fundraiser for my parents because they are concerned about taking assistance away from anyone else. But we need all the help we can get. My father was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in August 2021. He has already exceeded the odds since the life expectancy for brain cancer is short. My parents have been living off their retirement, but that has quickly dwindled in the last year and a half.
We have been blessed that my sister could provide live-in medical care for our father. She has been invaluable in helping my parents this far, working with the doctors to adjust medicine, recognize seizures, identify brain swelling, and keep his many wounds bandaged from being unstable. She recently returned to work to pay her bills and help our parents financially.
This year has been rough, filled with multiple hospital stays, an unexplained infection, a broken arm, and lots of confusion from brain swelling.
Whenever our family thinks we have things under control, a new bill or setback happens. Last month, a plumbing issue caused $2200 worth of work; last week, a car issue was another $1200 bill. On top of that, by February, we must repair the outside stairs from the second story, or my parents will lose their homeowner's insurance. These are in addition to medical bills, medical equipment, everyday expenses, and upcoming taxes.
For my father, it has been a challenge depending on others when he has been independent his whole life. He continues to impress us daily as he tries to adjust to his new routine, even after setbacks. Eleven years ago, he beat lung cancer, so we know he will continue to fight. His next MRI is on December 19th.
We appreciate any support and prayers.
