I am writing to you today with a heavy heart to ask for your support for my cousin, Johnette Jagong. In November 2025, she received a devastating cancer diagnosis while visiting us here in Edmonton. What was supposed to be a time of family connection has turned into a fight for her life. Because she is in Canada on a tourist visa, she does not have a provincial health card. We tried everything to get her help here, but her insurance extension denied coverage, labeling her cancer as a “pre-existing condition.” Despite our willingness to pay out-of-pocket, surgeons here are unable to perform the surgery without a provincial health card. To make matters even more difficult, her application for Humanitarian and Compassionate (H&C) grounds was refused in December 2025.

Johnette Jagong now has no choice but to return home to Philippines to receive the urgent surgery she needs. Her immediate family is all here in Canada and cannot leave:

Her sister is on implied status, providing 24/7 care for their 87-year-old father.

Her other sister must stay to care for her 6-year-old daughter.

While a kind neighbor and retired nurse in her home country has offered to help her during recovery, the financial burden is overwhelming. She must cover the cost of international medical travel, the surgery itself, and months of post-operative care without any insurance support.
