This GoFundMe campaign is initiated by the people organizing the 2026 Likoma island festival. Under the motto of leaving a place better than the way you found it they want to use all contributions of this GoFundMe link for cleaning up Likoma and Chizumulu, two islands in lake Malawi. The goal is not only to clean up the islands but also maintain them as clean in the future. Unfortunately plastic waste is a serious and increasingly visible problem on these otherwise beautiful islands.

The funds will be used for the following:

1) Start recycling projects on the islands

2) Buy 15 trash-bins to encourage waste management .

3) Conduct awareness campaigns and buy materials for beach clean-ups

4) Buy and rebrand cotton carrier bags to replace the plastic ones
