FiFi and I became a family almost six years ago when her owner could no longer provide for her care and surrendered her to K9 Spirit Organization, a dog rescue group in Fountain Valley, CA.
At just under 10 lbs., no one would ever guess this active, happy little Pomeranian has cancer. However, during a routine check-up, Dr. Diana Deckert at North Escondido Animal Hospital in Escondido, CA, was concerned about the swollen left side of FiFi's face and recommended she see Dr. Glenn Brigden at Pacific Coast Veterinary Dentistry in Carlsbad, CA. While under anesthesia, Dr. Brigden took biopsies of FiFi's jawbone and soft tissue and confirmed that FiFi has Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
Surgery is not an option because it would result in health problems when eating, drinking and breathing and significant disfigurement of her face. So instead, Dr. Brigden referred us to Dr. David Proulx, the head of radiation oncology for VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Carlsbad, CA. Dr. Proulx thinks FiFi is a good candidate for radiation treatments to help relieve some of her pain, reduce the tumor size, slow down cancer growth and give FiFi a better quality of life.
The radiation treatments are costly; however, it is comforting to know that FiFi has the best team of veterinary professionals taking care of her!
With no children, grandchildren or family to help financially, your donations will help keep us two senior girls together and will be the answer to my prayers!
Thank you and God Bless.
