Hi, I'm Harry McGrady. I'm a filmmaker from Oranmore in Galway. I'm studying film at Galway Community College.

Fieldwork is a crime thriller set in rural Ireland in the 1990s. A boy is found dead. Two detectives are sent to the village to find who did it. There are no mobile phones. Neither of them can drive.

It's about a small place where everyone knows everyone, and someone is lying.

Where it started
My short film After the Party was selected for the Busan International Kids and Youth Film Festival in South Korea in July 2026. The Connacht Tribune covered it. I was also interviewed on Galway Bay FM about it.

My most recent short, Fieldwork, won first place in the 15 to 18 category at the "Tipperary Film Festival". It's now running through more festivals, including "Treasure Coast Film Festival" in Florida, and hopefully "Young Filmmaker Of The Year 2027"

Fieldwork began as a short film. We shot it over three days in late June in County Galway, in the bogs around Moycullen and in real 1990s style houses. A team of cast and crew of over 25 made it happen.

THE FEATURE
The feature is about 80 minutes. The script is written. The budget and scene breakdowns are done. We plan to shoot in October 2027 for the daylight hours. I'll be 19 when we film. I'm aiming to premiere it at the Galway Film Fleadh in 2028.

The feature also goes deeper into the characters' pasts. It mainly follows George, and who he thinks the killer could be. Meanwhile, the younger detective starts to build his own life in the same place George has been trying to leave behind.

THE MONEY
The full budget is roughly €18,000. I'm also applying to Screen Ireland and talking to private investors. I'm looking for a producer too, to help with the application and with running production.

Lots of the budget will go towards providing travel and accommodation for cast and crew, set dressing, and equipment rentals.
  • Cast and crew €4,400
  • Locations, food and travel €4,200
  • Sets, wardrobe and makeup €3,500
  • Equipment and insurance €2,000
  • Post-production, festivals and contingency: €3,500

How you can help
Donate if you can. Even €5 helps, and If you can't, please share this page. It means just as much.
I'll post updates here as we go. Casting, scouting, shoot days, all of it.

Thank you for reading. I really mean it.
Harry
