Field trip Fund to Angel Island
Donation protected
Hello,
This is Paige and Kristi, two fourth grade teachers at Willow Oaks Elementary School in East Palo Alto. We are hoping to take our fourth graders on a field trip to Angel Island on May 20th. Normally families pay for the additional costs of field trips; however, 80% of our students are living below the poverty line and cannot afford to pay for the additional cost.
We know this field trip will leave a lasting impact on our students for a few reasons. Angel Island offers a historical tram tour, and on the tour, students will be able to stop at the United States Immigration Station to hear stories about several immigrant experiences, as they came to California. This is especially pertinent as most of our students are either first or second generation immigrants who need a space to develop pride in where their families originated from.
Students will gain a deeper understanding of what the immigrants did for California’s economic growth and expansion of the state, as well as analyze history through multiple perspectives and understand the importance of immigration.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you!
