Honeybee colonies are collapsing worldwide — and with them, the pollinators we depend on for one-third of our food supply. I’ve spent the last four years building a way to detect trouble in a hive before it’s too late — but now I need your help to put it to the test in the real world.
My name is Gordon McIntosh, Founder & Chief Technologist of Apiculture Technology International, LLC, with offices in Austin, Texas, and Bangkok, Thailand. I’m a retired engineer and Vietnam-era USAF veteran who has been developing products and methods to protect honeybees since 2021. I’ve self-funded this work from the very beginning, driven by my passion for protecting pollinators and supporting agriculture.
After more than 40 years designing and deploying real-time embedded systems for defense, environmental monitoring, and critical infrastructure — working in high-security labs at IBM, Motorola, UT Austin Applied Physics Laboratory, and Lockheed Martin — I turned my skills toward one of the most urgent environmental challenges of our time:
The rapid decline of global pollinator populations.
As a beekeeper, engineer, and inventor with over 25 granted patents, I’ve developed the Chemical Sensing Module (CSM) — a miniaturized system that detects the earliest chemical signs of disease, stress, and pesticide exposure in hives.
Our flagship device, HiveShield™, uses the CSM to monitor hives around the clock, sending alerts through the Apiculture Epizootiological Surveillance and Response System (AESRS) — a secure, global dashboard that helps beekeepers, scientists, and regulators act before disaster strikes.
Early testing shows HiveShield Will save beekeepers money by early detection of problems. See https://apiculture.ai/hiveshield-transforming-beekeeping-profitability/
But the next step, critical field testing of HiveShield™ in diverse, real-world conditions, is beyond what I can fund alone. Your support will allow us to deploy HiveShield™ in apiaries across Texas and Thailand, validate its performance, and take a major step toward protecting pollinators worldwide.
Every $300 raised protects one hive for many seasons. Please help us give beekeepers the early-warning tools they need to stop colony losses before they happen.
