l'm Jeff Gorski, past USATF Javelin Development chairman and coach of many high school state and national champions, several national record holders, All Americans and Olympians. 0ver 25 years ago, l built a runway in the forest to train javelin throwers when university facilities closed access to their tracks. More than 30 young athletes have gained college scholarships because of the skill they developed at this facility.
Time and helping promising young athletes have taken a toll on both the runway surface and training equipment; javelins, medicine balls and throwing balls have been given to them.
As cuts to school athletic funding are getting deeper, the need for places like our ''Field of Dreams'' become more important to help young throwers improve their abilities and chances of a college education and support of post college athletes chasing their dreams of representing their country on the global stage.
