On the 19th December, my best friend’s dad did not survive a pulmonary embolism, which arose post-surgery in Italy.

He suffered from disabilities for 3 years and was due for an operation on his knee affected by a hernia. The pain he was experiencing was unbearable even with medication. He could not walk or do anything by himself.

Before his surgery, he waited for about a year as he was on a long waiting list and also caught covid, which postponed the operation to a later date. Once admitted to the hospital, after nearly a month the doctors successfully conducted the surgery. However, two days later the pulmonary embolism caught them off guard.

He was 56 years old and a loving father to 4 children.

The family was terribly devastated by the news. My best friend Victoria who studies at UK’s university flew to Italy as soon as she heard the terrible news and will remain until further notice.

Uncle Fidelis have not seen being seeing his 3 siblings since he migrated to Italy over 20 years ago. Therefore, the donations will be crucial to allow all overseas family members and siblings to attend the funeral and say their last goodbyes to Uncle Fidelis. Scheduling the funeral to a suitable date has considerably increased funeral costs.
