In mid June, my mom and I are heading to Haiti to spend time at Espwa, an orphanage located just outside of the town of Les Cayes. Espwa is current home to nearly 300 boys and girls while another 1,600 children from the surrounding areas attend its schools.
While there are many worthy programs to support at Espwa, I am particularly moved to support Fi Ki Fo -- which means "strong girl" in Creole. With an unemployment rate nearing 75 percent, many girls are forced into the sex trade or become unpaid domestic servants called restaveks, who routinely suffer physical and sexual abuse. Fi Ki Fo is focused on helping young women at Espwa learn with the skills they need to be successful on their own when they are required to leave the campus at 18-years-old. Through the program, they take classes in English, French, sewing, and embroidery every week. They also do activities focused on empowerment, self-esteem, and financial literacy. Fi Ki Fo gives girls a chance to be something in life. And knowing that the only difference between me and these girls is where we were born, I am hoping to help in some small way.

If you would be willing to give $50 I will send you one of my matted prints of my own Fi Ki Fo drawings as a thank you. If you give $100 or more, I will send you the pair of prints.
