Meet Jasper. On a long distance road trip, hundreds of miles from home, my husband found Jasper on the side of the road, hit by a car and left for dead. Jasper managed to raise his head just as Mike was driving by, so he made a u-turn and went back to help him. He was clearly in pain and couldn’t move his back legs, so Mike called the sheriff and Animal Control for help. A neighbor came by and said he was a stray she’d been feeding. He had no tags, so after waiting over an hour, the neighbor helped Mike put Jasper on a make-shift gurney and into his truck so he could go to a local vet. After x-rays and searching for a microchip, we discovered 3 things. 1) His pelvis is broken clean through and he needs surgery to survive. 2) He had been laying on the side of that road for at least an entire day. 3) With no microchip detected, it looks like he’s found his furever family.
The first vet wasn’t equipped to handle that kind of surgery, so they contacted a surgical vet, gave Jasper pain medication, and Mike left for the 2 hour trip with Jasper. We don’t know what other ramifications this injury will have for Jasper, but he is so trusting and sweet and we cannot give up on him. We are fully prepared to take care of him for the rest of his life, but we need help with the initial evaluation, tests, surgery, and several days at the vet hospital for recovery, plus unexpected additional travel expenses and rehabilitation. We are eternally grateful for any help you can provide to help give Jasper a chance at life.
All donations will go directly to Jasper’s vet bills and transport expenses to get him back to Virginia. I will update the goal as we get estimates directly from the vet. Thank you. Edit: Some people have asked if they can donate outside of this and the answer is yes! I have PayPal, Zelle, and Venmo. I will add your donation to the total here, anonymously, so everyone can see the accurate total of donations.
