Not for profit Passion Project:
FASHION for PEACE
Through Wearable Art

'Fashion is more art, than art is'
Andy Warhol

Artist Dotty creates unique wearable art and organises fashion shoots in collaboration with community groups around Brighton. The wearable art is crafted in the distinctive style of Ping Pong Punk (PPP), a bold genre that integrates Ping Pong balls into fashion shoots, films, and sometimes, the wearable art jackets and hats.

Artist Dotty explains:

"Ping Pong balls bring high energy to a shoot, especially when performing stunts in the style of classic Hollywood films.

Through his various incarnations Artist Dotty AKA Matt Whistler, has been a modern day CGI slapstick filmmaker clown and stuntman for over 20 years. Promoting Fashion for Peace whilst building a range of wearable art, lends itself well to continuing the clown tradition especially through the medium of film, physical and digital art.

Ping Pong balls brought into a stunt and fashion environment, spread happiness to all involved.

Ping Pong Punk also aims to inspire the art world to 'Ping out the Pong', encouraging the use of Ping Pong balls across various artistic expressions.

PPP is a nod to Artist Dotty's favourite sport Table Tennis.

Table Tennis:
Raises the heart rate
Helps strengthen muscles
Mobilises joints
Sharpens reaction times
Improves hand eye coordination

The Purpose Behind the Fashion Shoots

Dotty's fashion shoots aim to achieve three key objectives:

• Bringing People Together

The core group of Artist Dotty’s fashionistas, known as The Poet Chandons, form a community of like-minded individuals who embrace the Dotty vibe and contribute to the creation of positive, energetic experiences.

• Promoting Sustainable Practices

Artist Dotty has two main goals :
Source locally
Source through Freegle
100% of the project clothing provided by Freegle.

Freegle is an organization that aims to increase reuse and reduce landfill, by offering a free Internet-based service where people can give away and ask for things that would otherwise be thrown away.

• Sending a Message of Peace

Each fashion shoot promotes a message of peace through symbolic gestures, such as making the peace sign or holding Nerf guns with flowers protruding from the barrels (all supplied by Freegle) Fashion itself may also feature peace-inspired elements. The goal is to scale these shoots and invite larger groups of peace supporters to help spread positivity.

Achievements and Vision :

Artist Dotty has already organised four successful fashion shoots with minimal resources. In each instance, Dotty has personally managed every aspect, including sourcing venues, arranging transportation, coordinating attendees, and creating immersive, artful backdrops.

Personal Message from Artist Dotty:

"The ongoing popularity of these shoots, even in the wake of the pandemic, shows the power of creativity to bring people together. In a world often driven by fear and greed, these shoots foster connection, joy, and wellbeing. The experience is transformative for participants, and these shoots often evolve into lasting friendships and networks."

The next step : Expanding the Vision

To continue this important work, Artist Dotty needs additional funding for:

Art materials and supplies

A production team to travel on tour

A dedicated studio space (average cost in Brighton: £100–£200 per month)

Full costings are available upon request.

Artist Dotty and the core team are eager to take this initiative to a larger stage, including at festivals and large-scale events such as concerts or even with prestigious organisations like the Royal Philharmonic.
