Hi,
Three years ago I decided to have a dog again. I fell in love with a photograph and adopted Arlo from Sirius Animal Rescue.

He travelled 48hrs non-stop in what they call a "happy bus" with 9 other animals from Romania to the UK to meet me. Arlo could say that he adopted me! It's been the best decision in my life and you will soon discover why.
In February I will be 50 years old and I want to celebrate the joy and love he brings to my life every day by turning my birthday presents in a fundraiser for Sirius Animal Rescue, this amazing charity that not only saved him from a tragic end but also gave him the love and care he needed before he came to me.

Rescue dogs are known to be often traumatised, difficult or dangerous but Arlo has been the most loving, balanced, sociable and easy dog I ever met, since the very beginning. I can't thank Sirius Animal Rescue enough for making the first 8 months of his life the best he could possible have.

Arlo and I are the lucky ones but many more animals are not adopted and need continuous support. Like in other parts of Europe, Romania, is full of too many cats, dogs and other small animals who are often abandoned, abused, neglected and killed weekly in overcrowded shelters that have no other choice. There are numerous charities trying to help in different ways and Sirius is a particularly special one that I completely trust and want to support.
SIRIUS ANIMAL RESCUE (SAR) is a NON-profit organisation, founded in 2017.
In the world of animal welfare there are many types of organisation: there are those that provide shelter, those who find homes, those who foster, those who provide support (donations, volunteers, in kind contributions) and those out on the streets, providing 24/7 emergency rescue.

For the past six years SAR has been offering direct rescue as a first line of intervention, responding to calls from people and institutions, at any hour, on challenging cases from medical, legal, safety and social points of view: from 80kg shepherd dogs fallen into a drain or scared frozen in the middle of the highway, to wild animals who require surgery and weeks of recovery, to dogs rescued from illegal dog fights or pets neglected or abused by their owners. Arlo was a one of 16 neglected dogs removed from their abusive owner together with his mum and siblings.
SAR is made by a handful of people that wish to make a change in the community and considers all animals as sensible beings and members of our society with a soul that deserve respect, care and responsibility.

By May 2023 the number of supporters reached 21k, a loving homes was found for 1350 souls, they started programs for microchipping and sterilisation in line with local and national legislation, training and campaigning in schools, rural areas, on TV and radio, to stop the unnecessary suffering of animals.

However, adoptions all over Europe have been facing big challenges in a post-pandemic, war-ridden, economic crisis world and SAR are suffering the same fate. Sirius Animal Sanctuary (SAS) is being developed as a long term project for all the dogs and cats who have not been adopted - in 2023 they were 205 of them. Three of Arlo's siblings despite being as beautiful as him were not so lucky and are still there.

In an ideal world Sirius Animal Rescue would cease to exist. In the meantime they work everyday to make this happen with a vision of proper healthcare for all animals, accessible and inclusive veterinary services (SAV), care and love from the community and for the Forever Sirius Animals at the sanctuary (SAS).

I hope you join me and Arlo in gratitude by supporting their amazing work and vision for a world in which all beings and animals are safe and loved.
Thank you!
Aleks and Arlo xx
