Meet Herby. He’s the namesake of a burger joint, Dallas’ favorite instagram dog, and most importably, DJ Sober’s best friend. Herby has helped Sober overcome the toughest obstacles in his life. Now, Sober must help Herby fight his own toughest battle. Herby was recently diagnosed with a condition that will be fatal without medical intervention. His heart condition has worsened and requires immediate treatment. The surgery required is very expensive.

I have known Sober my entire adult life. Sober has always been there for his friends, and this is our chance to return the favor to both Sober and Herby in their time of need. I have no doubt that if the tables were turned, they would do the same for us.

Herby’s medical issues started several years ago. During a routine check up, it was discovered that Herby had a heart murmur caused by mitral valve disease. The mitral valve is what keeps blood moving in the right direction. In Herby’s situation, the valve doesn’t close the way it should, causing blood to flow backwards. Heart murmurs have 6 stages. Herby has lived with a stage 6 heart murmur while on a steady drug regimen.

This October, after a routine x-ray, Herby’s heart is now enlarged, a precursor to heart failure. In the time that has followed, Herby’s energy, resilience, and youthful spirit has been nothing short of inspiring, but now we face a crucial point in his journey to recovery. 

The veterinarians at MetroPaws have recommended a specialized heart operation to give Herby the fighting chance he deserves. At this time, this state of the art procedure can only be done at Colorado State University and given the stage of the disease, we have to act immediately to prevent congestive heart failure. 

The procedure comes with a significant cost of $17K. This emergency could not have come at a more inopportune time as Will has taken on the venture of starting his own business, Herby’s. Otherwise, his full financial focus would be on getting Herby the treatment he needs.

For those who know Herby, you understand the joy he brings to every pop-up event and to Will’s daily life. His wagging tail, playful antics, and unwavering loyalty have made him not just a mascot of his own burger joint, but a cherished member of the community. Every contribution, no matter the size, would be immensely appreciated.

Along with this go fund me, a fundraising event will be taking place in the very near future for those residing in the DFW metroplex. Expect live performances, DJ sets, food, silent auctions, and a special merch drop.

All donations of this GoFundMe and upcoming fundraising event will go towards Herby’s surgery and any remaining funds will go to MetroPaws Veterinary Clinic. Those extra funds will go to a special account that goes towards helping families who cannot afford emergency care for their pets. It is our wish to make both these fundraisers as successful as possible, so that we can pass on the gift of life to our furry loved ones in need in our community.
