I met my wife in the fall of 1988. We have been married 25 years, and I am still in love with the woman I met nearly 27 years ago. Debbie has always been the kind that did for others before she did for herself. Loving, caring and giving to her friends.
Several months ago, she began to have issues with her digestive system . A physical was scheduled. While waiting for the exam, she felt worse and worse, and finally the day came and she was examined, followed by test at the hospital and that was when I found out the love of my life had cancer. We have met with the people here in Morehead City, and with the fine people at the UNC Cancer Center in Chapel Hill. She has a fair prognosis, not as good as if we had caught it sooner, but one that makes us feel we have a good fighting chance to beat it.
The only issue I see in her treatment is going to be our cost of living. Debbie work is at the veterinarian’s office, and since her treatment has begun, she has not been able to work. For the time being I am still working full time, but I have no idea how much work I will miss as her treatment progresses. Just the cost of gas for going back and forth to Carteret General and also to UNC Memorial, plus the other expenses not covered by insurance, are going to be well beyond my ability to pay. I believe most of you know me to a kind-hearted and caring man. I am also very proud, and it isn't easy for me to ask for help. All my life, I have been able to take care of myself and my wife without asking for any help outside my family, but this, this is well beyond what I can deal with by myself, and I need to ask our friends to rally around us. I would not ask this for myself, but I am fighting for my wife's life, both her physical life, and to be able to have a life to live after this fight is over.
Please help me provide her with the care and support she will need to win this battle.
