Funeral & Expenses

Hi, my name is Leanne Godfrey and I am the executor of my father's final wishes.

My father, Rodney Godfrey, has four children and served 33 years in the military where he was a communication specialist. He grew up in the small town of Grantsville, WV and as soon as he retired from service, he returned to his beloved home town to take care of his father. His father passed in January of 2021 and his brother, Dr. Larry Godfrey passed in September of 2021.

Two weeks ago our father was feeling ill and after some tests, his doctor informed him he had stage 4 bladder cancer and he was offered hospice.

Sadly, our father passed two weeks later with family and friends by his side. Family and friends were shocked by how quickly he passed but it only showed his strength since he did not seek help until so late in his illness.

There was no time to talk to dad in detail about finances but as we found today, he owes over 50,000 on his beloved farm on Pine Creek and much of his funds were spent caring for his father. He had no life insurance and it will be up to me to pay off his farm and I must give up my job and move here from Arkansas with three children to do so. What breaks our heart is that his body will be held until we can pay 3,000 to the funeral home for cremation, which his children can't do.

We are turning to those that knew and loved our dad to donate to his final expenses so we can place him beside his parents. I know Christmas just passed and it's hard to donate at this time of year but please, if you can afford to help us, it would be deeply appreciated. Please know we aren't use to asking for help.
