Walker's Recovery

Aloha to All those that are reading this,
My name is Sarah Lyons and I live in Maui, Hawaii.  I train horses in Dressage, Hunters, Jumpers and Western Pleasure, as well as Direct a Therapeutic Riding Program and a Horsemanship for Veterans Program at the Haku Baldwin Center.   I am also an active Board Officer & Member of two Horse Show Organizataions here on Maui.  I am a mother of a 3 year old son and 7 month old daughter.  My husband and I own many animals including horses, dogs, cats, and goats at our Upcountry home.
This fundraiser is for my beloved show horse, Wondrous Walker.  Walker came to me 4 years ago with a very bad reputaion for being difficult, dangerous, and unruly.  One of his worse habbits was using his 17 hands of size to run through or over people & bolt off, whether he was in hand, on the longe line, or undersaddle.  But through lots of ground work, dressage training, trail rides, and everyday handling, he and I built an amazingly stronge bond.  He has deveolpled a wonderful trust for me and I have developed a tremednous amount of respect and love for him.  He is now one of the sweetest and kindest horses, with excellent ground manners and so much try under saddle.  He and I showed Dressage for the past 4 years and he has won numerous Championships, including First Level Champion this past year.
But recently, on the day before Thanksgiving, after a night of heavy rain, my very special Walker came up lame on his right hind due to what turned out to be an infection in his coffin joint.  After several days of agressive antibioitc tretments, he showed no improvement, then was soon diagnosed with an infection that had reached the bone.
His prognosis went from bad to worse in just a matter of days, and I was heart broken.  But my love for this horse, and his connection to me has kept me fighting.  So now I am doing everything I can to help him recovery from this.
Walker has contiued to get all the best care and treatments including the strongest antibiotics, IV, direct injections in the coffin joint, and now a special compounded daily oral antibiotic.  He has also had limb profusions and a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment.  He gets daily icing and rewrapping, Laser Acupuncture, MagneticTherapy, and Homeopathic Remedies regularly.  He even got a special leg brace, that was recently heated, welded, and adjusted to better fit his leg angle to increase appropiate support and comfort.  The leg brace is desigend to support the injured leg, and ideally aid in relief for the good leg.
All funds that are raised during this fundraising campagne, will help aid in the vet bills which cover the many veteranary visits, the continued large doeses of antibiotics, all the other nessesary medication, the PRP trestment, the leg brace, and the many heaps of bandaging material.   It will also help with his many other therapy treatments, such as the Laser Acupuntcure and Magnetic Therapy.   It will also help cover the special equipment that he has needed inclding his very own personal shelter, extra water buckets, his personal jolly ball, shavings, and feed and added supplements which he's getting 2-3 times a day.  His recovery could take many, many months of treatments and tender care, but I am commited to giving him everything he needs to help him reach that goal of being able to enjoy being a horse again.
This has been very hard to see my beautiful, strong, and amazing horse in this situation.  He still can't bear weight on his injiured leg, but he continues to nicker to me and perk his ears up at every feeding.   He is staying as strong as he can, and I am fully dedicated to doing everything I can to help him heal, so that he can hopefully be with me for many years to come.  I know it will be a long recovery, and he may never be fully sound again.  But I love this horse so very much, that I am ok with all of it, as long as I can have him in my life as my equine friend and companion.
I thank you all for your consideration and support in this cause.  Walker is an amazing horse, who once had a difficult past and a questionable repution, to one who now has a heart of gold and has one of the most honest and kind personalities I've ever met.  He of all horses, has the strength and determination to pull through this, so I am deeply dedicated to helping him in this new journey to his receovery!
