Help Rachel Beat Cancer
Donation protected
On behalf of all who love her, I'm raising money for my dear friend Rachel Larson-Herring, who is fighting for her life.
Ask people about Rachel and you're going to get a bunch of different answers. Her students at Trenton school district where she's been teaching for over twenty years would tell you how Rachel advocates for all of their different special needs and makes them feel like they can do anything. Her yoga students would tell you how warm and encouraging she is. Her kids would tell you that she's the best mom ever. Her husband would tell you that she's his whole world. Her friends would tell you how funny and kind she is, and how they can always depend on her to be there when they need a helping hand.
But right now it's Rachel who needs help. During the pandemic, she was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer. She had surgery to remove several tumors, but the cancer had already spread to some inoperable lymph nodes. After months of chemo, she is now about to embark on Proton therapy (a type of radiation). Each session costs $12,000 and her insurance will only pay for about half. On top of that, her husband Amos had to take an unpaid leave of absence from his job to care for Rachel and drive her to her treatments.
Rachel is a mom of four children. When I called the other day, the sun was finally shining after a long winter, beckoning all 12-year-old boys to come outside, skateboard, shoot hoops. But Spencer (Rachel's youngest) was sitting next to his mom, asking her if there was anything he could do for her. He knew she was feeling lousy from chemo and wanted to help.
If you're able to help by making a donation, that would be wonderful and much appreciated. If you're not able to, that's OK. This pandemic has been tough on a lot of people financially. If you could please pray for Rachel and her family we would be so grateful.
