A message from Peter's Mom:
Here is Peters story.
Peter was born on November 9th 2014 on my Dad's birthday who I lost to cancer 9 months prior. He was perfectly healthy and so precious to us. After having 4 girls we never really expected to have another child let alone a boy but there he was in my arms.
A few months later Peter started to show signs of eczema, first on his cheeks and then on his body. Since we have dealt with eczema with one of my daughters we thought he would come out of it in a few months, maybe in a year. However- his case proved to be much more severe and less responsive to traditional treatments of steroids and food elimination. He kept getting worse and worse with steroids providing only temporary relief. We have visited many doctors including dermatologist, GI and allergist from Lurie's children hospital. We have done testing after testing only to find Peter being allergic to major food groups like diary, wheat, soy, corn, eggs, nuts and many fruits and vegetables restricting his diet to an elemental formula.
Fast forwarding through months of the same struggle- itchiness, discomfort, sleepless nights, skin infections- we found a homeopathic allergist who brings us hope with his AAT (Advanced Allergy Treatment) technology. Unfortunately for Peter- he found him to be allergic to over 80 items with each one requiring a separate session (or two at times) and it's not covered by Peters insurance. We have exhausted our health savings account on the first 15 treatments and set money aside to pay for the next 10. However after that will come a point where we won't be able to financially carry the burden of providing Peter with more treatments as we have other responsibilities that come with having 4 more children. Dr. Ian Wahl- his allergist- tells us that he himself has never seen a little person with so many allergies. He calls Peter a "universal reactant" because he reacts to everything from food, pollens, animals to many man made substances. I would like you to consider joining us in giving Peter a chance at a normal life and continuing his treatments that will enable him to function like most kids his age would. Right now his life is limited to our house as anywhere he goes creates an allergic reaction. If you ever had a chance to meet him- you would know he is the sweetest boy with an infectious smile and fun personality. There is nothing more I long for than seeing him be able to have one day without discomfort and pain.
I am one of Peter's loving aunts:
Peter and his mom, and usually a sister or two as he cant be left alone in the car due to his reaction to scratch at his pain, go to treatments almost an hour away, three times a week. Peter brings so much joy to our family and is so well loved. As outsiders may pass judgement or look on to Peter in a negitive way, we only see his beauty and strength. We ask that anyone who is able, even if it's only $5, please, help us bring joy to this sweet boy through treatment and relief.
