Eddie’s had noticed his legs were feeling heavy and weak for a few days so he decided to go into the ER due to him falling down some stairs at his home the previous night. At the ER, they ordered an MRI due to Eddie having a history of back problems but the MRI came back normal and so Eddie was sent home. The day after Eddie was sent home from the ER, he woke up and found he could no longer wiggle his toes or move his foot up and down so he went back to the ER. The doctors were unsure of what was going on and thought he may have pinched a nerve so they put him on a steroid pack, told him to follow up with his primary care doctor and sent him on home again. By the time he saw his primary care doctor a few days later, Eddie was using a crutch to walk due to his right foot dragging and he was starting to experience pain in his right arm as well. His primary care told him to finish the steroid pack and follow up a neurologist to get an EMG and schedule another MRI. About a week later, Eddie was finally able to be admitted for a neuro exam by recommendation of his primary care in which he had an MRI on his head, neck and spine. The MRI came back that evening and he was told he had a tumor in his brain about the size of a large grape. Eddie had a craniotomy where they removed the tumor the following day.
He was in the ICU for 2 days and then stayed at the hospital to recover for an additional 3 days. Eddie was still not able to move the right side of his body and was then transferred to a neuro inpatient rehabilitation facility where he stayed and did occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. He recently received partial pathology report back where it was confirmed that the tumor was a Glioblastoma and is cancerous.
Eddie and his family are currently waiting to go to his oncology appointment where they will discuss the tumor, the stage of the cancer and treatment plan. He has shown improvement in the right side movement of his body but it will still be an ongoing journey to recovery.
Eddie and his family has been blessed with the outpour of love and support that they have been shown while Eddie has been in the hospital and in neuro inpatient care. They will need continuous support through this difficult time. Due to unknown amount of treatment, stage of cancer, or verified coverage from insurance for his treatment, we are asking for donations to support his family so they can focus on Eddie’s health and continue living life as normally as possible. Any help is deeply appreciated by his family and friends while we come together to support Eddie and his recovery.
