FES Bike for Gareth – Help Him Rebuild His Strength

Hi, my name is Karen, and I’m fundraising for my wonderful husband, Gareth Bayley.

In April 2022, when Gareth was just 38, he suffered a devastating stroke that left him with locked-in syndrome. Overnight, our world changed. Doctors told us he would likely never move again, apart from slight eye movements.

But Gareth is a fighter.

Over the past three years, he has defied every expectation. He has regained some head movement, he smiles, he laughs, and his expressions have returned in ways we were told might never happen. Every small step forward has given us hope that more recovery is possible.

We recently learned about a special piece of equipment called an FES Bike, which stimulates Gareth’s muscles and allows his arms and legs to move together. This could be life-changing for him—helping to build strength, improve circulation, and prevent further muscle wasting.

Sadly, this equipment costs over £35,000, and despite applying for funding, our request was declined because it wasn’t classed as “essential.” To us, though, it feels essential. It could give Gareth the best possible chance at further recovery, independence, and dignity.

Every day, Gareth wakes up determined to keep fighting. He has come so far already, and with your help, we believe he can achieve even more.
