Fernanda Fukamati passed away on Aug.8th, 2023. Like many artists, she experienced life with great intensity and passion, and she had a soul that, I believe, was not made for this modern, capitalist world. She took her life and left us a letter, stating that she wished to rest eternally, and we hope that she is.
We are simply broken that our beautiful and loving sister/daughter is no longer with us. We want to honour Fernanda and make sure her legacy will live on.
Fernanda's passions were writing and performing. The last and final time that she took the theatre stage was in February 2023. She performed in the Shuwap Theatre’s production of The 39 Steps, located in Salmon Arm, BC. The theatre was raising funds at the time for its necessary renovations. The play's cast and crew shared with us how impactful Fernanda's performance was, and so we want Fernanda to live on in that theatre.
We’re working with members of the Board of the Shuswap Theatre society to renovate the dressing room under Fernanda’s name. Every artist that takes the stage at the Shuswap Theatre will walk through that dressing room, get into their costumes, and do their hair and makeup before getting into the spotlight, and Fernanda will be in that dressing room in spirit.
My father, Sergio, came up with this idea. He was able to attend Fernanda's performance in February. After Fernanda passed, he knew he wanted to make a point of supporting the theatre culture of Shuswap in Fê's name.
Thank you so much for being a part of Fernanda's journey.
Love,
Paula, Regina & Sergio.
