Fern Perez has been diagnosed with both Cyclical Vomiting Syndrome (CVS) and Degenerative Disc Disease (DDD), keeping her in a perpetual loop of vomiting and back pain. While medications can help and she manages the pain impressively, this prevents her from being able to work consistently, because she never knows when the issues will strike. They are strong enough to knock any person down to their knees.
As I've gotten to know Fern this year, I've seen firsthand how many problems this combination of issues has created. As well as learning about the unexpected occurrences of vomiting stool, triggering states of CVS through states of both anxiety and joy, while living with it for years, without a diagnosis. Additional surgeries and medications are needed that are extremely difficult to afford, when she is not only unable to work but also unable to receive disability from a government that does not seem to take these issues seriously.
I wish we were setup in a way that it didn't take asking for help from friends and family in order to help her get back on her feet when she so clearly needs it. She needs medical support to get back on her feet however, she is needing to get back on her feet, in order to get that medical support. This is a vicious cycle that we can help to break by supporting a person that is working every day to keep her head above water.
Right now Fern is in the Hospital because she is wholly dehydrated and can't hold down any food. She's hooked up to IVs and a feeding tube trying to get her strong enough to get back home until CVS strikes hard again and she has to return to the hospital. This beautiful human needs help getting back on her feet, and we ask that you provide some help if you are able
