Many of you know Fermin Avila as an incredible guide who has dedicated the past 15 years to leading over 30 expeditions for Mountain Trip on Aconcagua. Fermin is known as "The Man" on the mountain, helping climbers not only reach the summit but also enjoy the journey along the way.
But right now, Fermin and his family need your help.
After returning to his home in El Bolson, Argentina, at the end of the Aconcagua season, Fermin found himself facing a devastating wildfire crisis. His home is still standing—just barely—with flames reaching within 50 feet. Tragically, Fermin’s mother lost her home, and Fermin himself has lost his zipline business to the flames.
While the fires are still raging, his family is safe for now. But the damage is extensive, and the future remains uncertain.
As many of you know, wildfires like these have devastated communities across the world, and we can’t help but think of our friends in California who have recently experienced similar heartbreak. In Argentina there is limited support for those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. That’s why we’re reaching out to our community of friends, fellow climbers, and everyone who has had the privilege of knowing Fermin over the years.
We’re asking for your help to raise funds that will help Fermin and his family rebuild their lives. This will be a long and challenging road for them, and any amount you can contribute will make a difference.
Here’s how you can help:
Donate today!
Share the message: Help spread the word by sharing this with your friends and family.
Reach out to Fermin! A message of support can mean the world in times like these.
Every donation, no matter the amount, will go directly to supporting Fermin’s family through this incredibly difficult time. Your generosity will help provide for their immediate needs, and also help them begin to rebuild in the months and years ahead.
We deeply appreciate your kindness, and thank you for standing with Fermin and his family during this unimaginable challenge. We will collect the money and make sure that every penny makes it to Fermin.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Bill Allen, Todd Rutledge and Laura Duncan
