Our beautiful boy Fergus is facing something we never imagined.
A few days ago, we discovered a fast-growing lump on his paw. After tests and a biopsy, we were told it is a mast cell tumour. Because it’s on his paw pad, the vets can’t safely remove it without taking a lot of tissue, and the only way to give him the best chance of beating this cancer is a front-leg amputation.
Hearing the word “cancer” has shattered us, but what makes it even harder is how full of life, love, and joy Fergus still is. He’s 11, but you’d never know it. He still greets everyone with excitement, still plays like a pup, and still fills our home with so much happiness. He doesn’t know he’s ill — he just knows he loves his family.
But Fergus isn’t just our dog.
He’s our hero.
Fergus carried our family through some of the darkest moments of our lives. He was my dad’s best friend — his constant companion — and he was there with him when he passed away. Fergus was by his side when no one else could be. He watched over him with loyalty, love, and the kind of gentle soul that only dogs seem to have. Since then, he has been our comfort, our strength, and the one who helped us keep going through grief. He has protected our hearts in ways we can never repay.
Now it’s our turn to protect him.
Amputation gives Fergus a real chance.
Dogs adapt incredibly well to life on three legs, and our vet believes this surgery could give him a long, comfortable, pain-free life. Without it, we may lose him far too soon — and we can’t give up on him when he has never given up on us.
On top of everything, we were told that our insurance won’t cover the costs because Fergus had a lump examined once before, which counts as a “pre-existing condition”. This means every part of his treatment — the surgery, the aftercare, and the ongoing support he’ll need — has to be paid for by us and it’s incredibly expensive.
Any donation, no matter how small, will go directly toward giving Fergus the future he deserves. If you can’t donate, simply sharing his story means the world to us.
Fergus has given us everything — loyalty, love, comfort, and memories that will stay with us forever.
He is our heart, our family, our hero.
Thank you for helping us fight for him. ❤️
