Fergal’s & Franklin’s Emergency Hospital Visit

Tax deductible
Fergal arrived here almost 3 weeks ago in a group of goats from a dairy dispersal. While in quarantine he developed lethargy and poor appetite. Despite multiple vet exams and treatments he continued to decline. We transported him to the vet hospital today so they could do more diagnostic work. He is now hospitalized and being treated for tetanus. This is a first for us. We have decided to give him 24 hours and see if he responds to antibiotics and antitoxin. It appears his banding at the dairy without a tetanus booster was enough to have him become infected. His prognosis is poor but the vet has successfully treated other goats in similar hemodynamic condition. We felt it was worth trying. If you’d like to help us fight for Fergal we would appreciate any donations.

Franklin developed swelling and redness last weekend. It was treated with antibiotics and an abscess near his prepuce opened yesterday. Based on the location it is possible that he has a blockage in his urethra. We will know more once he is examined at Cornell. He will need surgery. Soon as I have more information I’ll update the page. Franklin headed out in the Rescue Trailer.
