Support Ferenc's Healing Journey: Colon Cancer

My father, Ferenc (Frank) has brought life into every event & gathering.  He believes that music is a universal language that heals, and his passion brings positive energy to any room. He inspires me to see the good in every situation through music, and I share this passion with him.

He always wants the best for everyone around him, and works so hard to make sure that our family lives a good life. He was fit, active & healthy, so it seemed. It was on an Wednesday, 3rd of July 2019, the pain became unbearable. My dad didn’t look so good so we rushed him to Emergency at the Royal Columbian Hospital.

He had recently been diagnosed with Advanced Colorectal Cancer and also had an extreme infection that needed immediate surgery and treatment. Thankfully the surgery went well and they were able to clean & treat the infection.

We were all very worried for his well-being. He has been in the hospital for 2 weeks now and under great care of the Royal Columbian staff. My parent’s have been working so hard to obtain permanent residency here, so we can all be together with my sister and the kids, that has also been a struggle, in addition to everything else that’s been going on. My niece & nephew have been the biggest blessing in our family, and my dad has been the best Grandpa to them, Emily (niece) & Benjamin (nephew) love him very much, and they haven’t been able to see him much since he’s been in the hospital. Showing him pictures & videos of the kids while he’s at the hospital brings him to tears.

Spending a lot of time at the hospital with him, we’ve shared memories and stories from the past, it's allowed us all reflect how far we’ve come…

He had flashbacks of 1991 in Yugoslavia, my dad was stationed to deliver water to war troops on the front line. Seeing first hand the devastation & suffering that war caused, he wanted a better life, a better life for himself and his family.

We relocated to Hungary in ’93 where my parents started their own business owning a video rental store and lived a simple life in the beautiful town of Szekszard. When the economy took a turn, we took a chance at a better life and moved to Vancouver.

We fell in love with Canada and Vancouver felt like home. We loved the scenery, we love the people, & this was the land of opportunity for us. But It was one-thing-after-another and we weren’t able to renew our permits so we had to go back to Hungary, so coming back here is our second chance at keeping our family together, and then hearing about his diagnosis, we were left speechless.

The Doctors said that once the infection is cleared, he’ll be able to be discharged & may need bedside care. We are looking at alternative treatments to help deal with the cancer, as we were informed that chemo or radiation would not be advised at this stage since its so advanced. He’s changed his diet to plant-based, and prior to hospitalization he’s been exercising regularly. We are grateful for Royal Columbian and the amazing surgeons and staff that worked tirelessly to save my Dad.

Our family bond is stronger than ever and we are continuously praying for miracles, we can’t do it alone and are reaching out for financial support to help us cover the medical bills that have been piling up and upcoming bills for alternative treatment. His diagnosis has helped us all realize that life is so precious, and time with loved ones should be cherished.

For those that know my dad and our family, it is not often we seek external support, this has been a challenging time and we appreciate all the love, prayers and warm wishes that have poured in. We know we are not alone in this journey and that many families share similar stories hope that by sharing this we can continue to understand how we can better my Dad & others that are also battling illness. We believe in the good people like yourselves and human connection. From my family to yours, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
