Feral Change Kitten Rescue Campaign
Donation protected
Each year between the months of April and September Oakland Animal Services ("OAS"), the city's municipal animal shelter, is flooded with orphaned kittens. Many of these kittens face a rather uncertain fate due to the fact that the shelter lacks the resources necessary to properly care for them. If a rescue organization is not immediately able to find placement for these kittens in a foster home, they will often be euthanized. Despite having robust relationships with three local rescues that focus specifically on kittens, a significant number of kittens in Oakland are euthanized each year due to a lack of foster homes. During the summer of 2014, approximately 60% of the cats that were euthanized at OAS were kittens under the age of 5 weeks.
Through its Kitten Rescue Program, Feral Change seeks to reduce the number of kittens euthanized each year at OAS by finding suitable foster placements, as well as educating members of the public on what to do if they find a litter of kittens. Feral Change is an Oakland-based 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary goal is to utilize Trap-Neuter-Return ("TNR") to reduce the number of kittens born to Oakland's stray cat population.
