My name is Linda Nofer: I have been working with like-minded friends and the fantastic Barn House Community/Help With Cats for the past year, trapping and releasing feral cats and kittens. We do not release kittens we find socialized or socializable: we care for, foster, and find homes for them. Until you see the epidemic of our feral cat population, it is hard to comprehend how vast this problem is and how underserved these animals are in our community.
We have a HUGE colony to tackle now near Indian School Rd. and 51st Ave. This colony resides in an expansive area including a post office, a library, a park and public garden, two schools and a vast underground tunnel system of culverts that runs throughout where cats are hiding and giving birth. I have never seen anything like the numbers of kittens (many sick) with sewer drains for shelter, school kids hassling them (yes, they do!) and who depend upon the kindness of strangers for food/water to survive. I was there yesterday and counted 20 kittens in a sewage drain with no food and filthy water. I estimate there are (both above ground and below) 150 - 200 homeless cats/kittens. We will take on the monumental task of drastically reducing this breeding ground compassionately with TNR, but we need help. Each cat will cost about $35 (the 'healthy' cost): that does not cover the costs of treating sick and/or pregnant cats, most common in colonies this size. We will do the physical labor out of love, but we rely upon the compassion of others to help us cover the financial responsibility of a megacolony this size. Your help will prevent litters of unwanted kittens, suffering and death from disease, abuse and the elements. Unneutered and abandoned pets did not cause this problem: they inherited it from us. Please help us help them. Each cat we trap and neuter will live a healthier and safer life, and the kittens we save will know love and human kindness instead of fear, hunger and disease living on the streets. Every dollar counts. Please share this with anyone who has ever been blessed to feel the love of an animal and knows the unique joy they bring to our lives. It is those of you who we are relying on to understand the desperate situation these kittens are in and how urgently they need our help. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
