In November 2014, after a year and half of symptoms, our dad, Richard Fenwick, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Since then, he has lost his ability to speak, to walk and to swallow properly. With the help of hired caregivers and amazing family and friends, he has been cared for since he moved out of his home in August. Recently we have been faced with the immediate need to get him into a new housing/care situation. Because of his feeding tube, his options for facilities are limited since most will not take feeding tube patients. As a result, the only place that will accept him is out of our reach financially. And so we need to ask for help.
The cost of the facility is close to $5,000 a month which includes his room, 24 hour care and all of his meals. He will be able to have round the clock care and wheelchair accessible facilities. We are trying to raise $18,000 to supplement our payment on rent over the next 6 months while we attempt to free up some more funds. One time donations or monthly support are both helpful. ANY help you can offer is appreciated more than you will ever know.
This is so far beyond our comfort zone but we realize that both ALS and the financial strain it brings is bigger than we can handle on our own. We are trusting in Jesus and believing that he will provide, maybe even through you. If you can not afford to give financially (or even if you can!), your prayers are everything. Thank you for partnering with our family and supporting our dad during this season of hardship and struggle. In all of this, we know we are more than conquerors because ALS does not win in the end- Jesus wins. Thank you for joining us on this journey. We love you all!
