FENDY NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!
I'm Gaz and I'm raising funds for my dog Fendy, who needs a clear diagnosis and treatment...
FENDY'S BACKGROUND:
She hasn't had the best start in life, being a breeding dog and living in a shed for the first 5-6yrs of her life. I've had her for around 4yrs now so she is around 10yrs old. She has allergies, but after multiple tests and years of food changes we finally have a handle on that. So she's only just started having a comfortable life!
We go on daily walks and weekly hikes and wild camping trips in the English countryside, (see YouTube channel Grizzly Gaz to see her enjoying life). Who would have thought that a French Bulldog would be the perfect hiking buddy. We've camped on some of the UK's highest mountains, bleakest moorlands and creepiest woodlands...
And she absolutely loves it!
THE PROBLEM AND WHY WE NEED HELP:
Around April of 2024 she started dragging her nails (hind legs) on the floor. I initially thought she had maybe just pulled a muscle from all the walking we do or jumping off the bed etc so we rested for a few months with no improvement.
So I took her to the vet who diagnosed her with Degenerative Myelopathy (DM) which is a progressive, inherited, INCURABLE neurological disease in dogs that affects the spinal cord, causing gradual weakness and loss of coordination, eventually ending with paralysis in all four limbs.
SHE WAS GIVEN 6-12 MONTHS TO LIVE!!
It's been over 12 months and she still has function of all her legs but her hind legs have gotten weaker, to the point where she cannot go on the hikes she loves so much anymore and needs aids to help her onto the sofa and bed. But she can still walk and she still has lots of fight left in her. She's only just started living!
So I took her back to the vet plus 2 other vets to get different opinions. They all said the same... Degenerative Myelopathy.
I refused to believe this because she should be FULLY paralysed by now (according to the same vets) but the only thing that can diagnose DM is a CAT scan which costs £5500!!! So the vet says.
I'm asking for help towards any sort of diagnosis and treatment thereafter.
If 5500 people donate £1, that will get her the scan and hopefully a diagnosis, if it is actually DM.
If it isn't DM and she has some other problem then any money raised will go towards that diagnosis and treatment. The road feels uncertain at this point and I've ran out of funds I earn from working.
Setting this GoFundMe up hasn't been an easy decision as it feels like begging but I'm at a loss of what to do. Lots of people have told me to set it up and do whatever it takes to get Fendy the help she needs and I think it's the right decision...
I'll be so grateful for any contribution, even if it's only £1, it's a start.
If you want to see Fendy living her best life you can check her out on YouTube, there's 4yrs of content on there. Hopefully she has at least another 4yrs on there!
