FEMME DMC - UNITED GLOBAL VOICES
Hey there, I'm Dafina Sylejmani, also known as Dacid Go8lin. Let me share with you my motivation behind the Femme DMC GoFundMe campaign. Femme DMC reflects everything I stand for as an individual and an artist. It's more than just an art project; it's a movement against discrimination and uniformity, ensuring diversity in content through collaborative efforts.
My journey in the arts and culture scene has been diverse. From coordinating projects at Radio Fro, Dorf TV and Okto TV, to engaging with organizations like Maiz, Wiener Festwochen, and Wienwoche, I've developed a deep understanding of event coordination and the unique challenges involved.
Having experienced conflict and adversity as a war refugee, I've become passionate about political and social issues. This drive led me to actively participate in panel discussions, sharing my experiences and learning from others' perspectives. My commitment to social causes has also led me to work extensively in schools & universities as a migration ambassador and more recently, as a World Peace Ambassador.
But my heart lies in music and art. In 2015, I founded FEMME DMC, a collective and event series aimed at promoting rap and hip-hop from queer, feminist, and non-discriminatory perspectives. Over the years, we've organized numerous events at Fluc, Camera Club and even performed and conducted workshops in Paris, Zürich, Berlin, Tirana, and Munich.
Through my work in the music industry, I've developed strong skills in audio production and editing, producing jingles for various radio stations and collaborating with artists. As a producer and composer, I believe in empowering new talent, which is why Femme DMC is essential. It provides a platform for emerging artists to showcase their skills and be heard.
Joining Femme DMC as a Composition Partner and Collaborator feels like a natural fit. It allows me to channel my passion for music and social change into something tangible, contributing to a dynamic and progressive movement.
Together, we can create a space where diversity thrives, where voices are amplified, and where art transcends boundaries. Thank you for considering supporting our cause. Let's make a difference together.
If you ask why does Femme DMC mean so much to me? I would say...
Femme DMC isn't just a project or platform to me; it's a profound reflection of my core beliefs as an individual and an artist. It embodies the essence of inclusivity, diversity, and empowerment, values that resonate deeply with my personal journey and experiences. As someone who has faced discrimination and adversity firsthand, creating a space like Femme DMC, where everyone feels safe, valued, and free to express themselves authentically, is not just important—it's essential. This platform represents a movement against discrimination and uniformity, ensuring that diverse voices are heard and celebrated through collaborative efforts. Femme DMC is more than just an artistic endeavor; it's a catalyst for social change, a beacon of hope in a world that often feels divided.
What drives my passion for music and social change?
My passion for music and social change is rooted in my personal journey and experiences. As a war refugee who has witnessed conflict and adversity, I've developed a deep understanding of the power of music and art to transcend boundaries and bring people together. Music has been a source of solace and inspiration for me during some of the darkest moments of my life, and I believe in its ability to ignite social change and foster connections across cultures and communities. Through my work in the music industry, I've seen firsthand the transformative impact that music can have on individuals and society as a whole. By empowering emerging artists and providing them with a platform to share their stories and perspectives, Femme DMC is not just promoting artistic talent—it's creating a space for dialogue, understanding, and empathy.
Joining Femme DMC as a Composition Partner and Collaborator allows me to combine my passion for music with my commitment to social change, contributing to a dynamic and progressive movement that celebrates diversity and amplifies marginalized voices. Together, we can create a world where music is not just a form of entertainment, but a powerful tool for social justice and empowerment.
What do I want to do with the GoFundMe funds?
Project Description:
Femme DMC (femme de master of ceremony) is an art project that wants to become an independent platform, movement, and label based in Vienna. We have successfully established an international female Hip-Hop scene since 2015. The aim of Femme DMC is to create a safe space for women*, and agender (FLINTA) individuals to unleash their artistic potential, empower themselves, and support each other. This platform promotes individual growth through unity and focuses on the four pillars of Hip-Hop: Rap, DJ-ing, Dance, and Graffiti.
Project Goals:
- Establishing an association and a permanent studio to provide FLINTA individuals with a stable resource center.
- Hosting live performances, workshops, training sessions, and online presentations to nurture and disseminate artistic talent.
- Creating an online platform to give FLINTA individuals a voice and address topics underrepresented in mainstream media.
Project Timeline and Financial Needs:
New Generation:
A program that includes workshops, music production, and performances to impart artistic expertise and showcase visual artworks. Participants will also build networks and participate in open-mic sessions.
Femme DMC Queendom Show:
- A monthly online showcase on YouTube featuring artists from all over the world and making their works accessible to a worldwide audience.
- Concert series and events: Organizing live performances to foster international networking and strengthen team spirit.
- Studio and workspace: Renting a studio to provide FLINTA artists with a space for creative work.
- Ongoing workshops: Conducting workshops throughout the year to engage both young and older generations and educate them on various topics.
Financial Needs:
We are requesting funding to cover the studio rent, workshop implementation, online content production, as well as the organization of events and performances. With your support, we can promote artistic diversity, provide a platform for FLINTA individuals, and advance our vision of a shared, better future.
