A letter from Vision Technologies CEO, John Shetrone.

Vision Family and Friends,

I often remind us of just how lucky we are to work in a company that is growing and has in even the worst of times, one where our teammates have steady work and opportunities and I believe we will continue to thrive and be successful as long as we execute on our strategy and when we do we will each continue to enjoy professional, personal and economic growth. We are truly blessed.

However, there are many in our country who are not so lucky, or so blessed, and who are faced with unfair burdens and a lack of options; such as poverty, crime, drugs, no jobs, and lack of opportunities that many of us take for granted. These things translate to a poor quality of life and lack of hope.

Baltimore City is one such place as I know there are many such places in our country and in areas where some of our teammates reside. I often thank those who do give back to their communities as I know they are working to make a difference or to help others that are less fortunate, again thank you for your generosity.

For those who are not familiar with Baltimore or even those who are through the headlines, Baltimore is a city in crisis. The murder rate in among the highest in the country, and climbing. Poverty and despair is everywhere, and there is a general state of hopelessness.

As our company has grown, so have our corporate responsibility to the communities like Baltimore, and the communities that our teammates are a part of. It’s a huge undertaking and we know we can’t be everything to everyone, but we have to start and build a culture of giving, of being a company that cares. Last year we supported several activities and events ranging from supporting our troops to school programs, to the homeless, and the United Way as examples.

Also last year we undertook a bigger challenge, one we will look to do every year, and we hosted our first annual golf tournament with the proceeds going to a Disabled Veterans program. That achievement has provided a foundation of giving for us to build on.

This year we have the opportunity to help another very important cause and one that’s right here in our backyard. As I mentioned Baltimore is a city in crisis, and there is lots to do and lots of places we can help. So that is why this year we picked New Fellowship Christian Community Church as a cause to support and we donated the proceeds from this year’s golf event, and even though it helps we still have a long way to go.

I first got introduced to the Church and their mission from one of our Vision teammates who asked me to speak on the subject of Entrepreneurs. He is a man I have come to have a great deal of respect for by just watching his commitment to being a great teammate and high performer but also he still finds time to invest in his church and his community, and it was through conversations, and being invited to speak at one of the Men’s Conference on Entrepreneurship I learned of their mission, goals, and challenges.

This church and it’s congregation have many challenges to overcome to achieve their mission, not of least rebuilding part of the church that was destroyed by fire, but also of bring hope and opportunity to one of the roughest and most challenged parts of the city and where crime and despair are a part of everyday life.

Here is a picture of the fire:

The fire like other challenges has not deterred. The New Fellowship Christian Community Church is committed to the success of the vision their founding Pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Rogers who created the Fellowship Outreach Corporation as a means to bring light to one of the tougher sides of the city. The pastor has since passed, but the congregation is more committed than ever to actualize his vision.
