Hi everyone! My name is Felix Ridgwell, and I am an Anglo-Swedish 19 year-old living in Singapore. I am currently on a gap year and will start my studies at Durham University in the UK in October to study Economics, Politics, and History. Since this January I have received the most humble and amazing opportunity to become an Ambassador for the 'Water and Healthcare Foundation' (the WAH Foundation) in Singapore.
I will be doing my first ever triathlon on Tuesday, 22 June 2021 to raise money to support WAH. This will entail me to complete a half-Iron Man event. This includes, a 1.9 km swim, a 90 km cycle, and row for 21 km (which is half a marathon) in that specific order. Although most of the money that will be funded will go directly to WAH to help the less-privileged communities.
Cambodia, just like every country, has also suffered tremendously due to the pandemic. On the 15th of April 2021 the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Sen, declared that the country was on the 'brink of death' from the surge in COVID-19 cases. As we are all battling with a surge in Covid 19, Cambodia with much fewer resources is fighting harder.
I would like to help raise funds for a province called Kampong Chhnang where WAH is action in. There are 8 make-shift quarantine centres (school facilities). The 4 hospitals are running full, treating patients infected by COVID-19. Many factories had to shut down as their staff were infected, and all the workers sadly had to stay inside the factories. The villages in these quarantine centres need your help. They have no air conditioning, no hotel food, no tap inside their sleeping area. Aside to the uncomfortable condition, they have to endure the heat as well as mosquitoes.
Will you please join me to make it easier for the people? The 'Water and Healthcare Foundation' has been distributing bread, instant noodles and bottled water to people in quarantine. They need our support to continue this work. With your help, YOU can give food bags to the villagers in these quarantine centres! The bag includes instant noodles, bread, bottled water, mask, and santitisers. The health centres and hospitals also need huge supplies of mask, gloves and alcohol. If we gather sufficient funds, we can also donate a clean water system to a school in rural area.
About WAH:
WAH was formed in 2009, by Christopher Wilson. Water and Healthcare Foundation is a registered charity in Cambodia, and they are also registered in Singapore as a non-profit.
Today WAH has 13 Cambodian employees on the ground, including Dr Rany Keo, a woman doctor as the Executive Director. They are partners with the Kampong Chhnang Provincial Health Department, a part of Cambodia’s Ministry of Health. Today they have 200 water systems in schools and health centres.
They work at the bottom of the pyramid, in extremely poor areas, and collaborate with schools and the Provincial Health Department to bring clean water and sanitation to schools, health centres and hospitals.
Any updates on this amazing endeavour and campaign will be posted here on the website!
Best wishes,
Felix Ridgwell, Ambassador to the WAH Foundation
