Felix Dyson's insurmountable medical debt

Hi, I'm Felix Dyson, artist of the webcomic A Distant Sky. Earlier this year, I came down with what I thought at the time was a minor throat infection which quickly escalated to an emergency room visit and then a month's hospitalization and a brush with death in the form of bacterial meningitis. This turned out to be a case of Lemierre's Syndrome, and my month-long hospital stay was followed by another month of IV antibiotic treatment in order to completely purge my system of the offending bacteria.

And, while I'm eternally grateful to the hospital staff and doctors for literally saving my life, as an uninsured artist living in the United States of America, the bill from said brush with death was unfortunately and predictably stratospheric. Even with an exceedingly generous sum of financial assistance secured after a three-month waiting period, my total bill remains... pretty dang high.

And so. I want to continue making comics and art; it's what I love doing and has been my passion and pride for the last four or so years of maintaining this comic. But I can't sustain it any further without your help; even the last two months of recovery have been mentally paralyzing due to the stress and anxiety associated with such severe medical debt, and my increasingly uncertain financial prospects have created a psychological barrier preventing me from picking up the pen and making more art. I want more than anything else to continue telling this story, exploring these characters, and even planning new future projects following the conclusion of A Distant Sky. And if this is something you want too, then I would greatly appreciate your help at this time.

I've set the goal for this fundraiser at the approximate remainder of my medical fees, but if I am to continue my journey as a webcartoonist, I need all the support I can get.
