Welcome to the #sunshinesmiles campaign to #SaveSanta!
Ever heard of Feline Stomatitis? Me neither, until after surviving the unthinkable, my disabled spouse and I bought the perfect little house on a mountain, but after we moved in that we found out more than 40 cats had been abandoned here by the previous owner! With the help of our donors, we’ve fixed 39 of the necessary cats to stop the flow of unrequested kittens, but that wasn’t the only health problem impacting this colony. All of the cats were sick, but some have more than just an Upper Respiratory Infection..
5 of them have Stomatitis - an inflammatory disease that impacts a cats mouth, causing excessive swelling, drooling, matted fur, and severe pain. Untreated, it can cause many cats to stop eating completely and pass way from malnutrition. Thankfully at this time, they are all still eating (we do need grain free wet food from our Amazon wishlist!), but they are in great pain. There’s no known cause, and no known cure, but there is treatment available - it’s just expensive.
The five Stomatitis cats here; Sweets, Skunk, Scrappy, Dash, and Santa, ALL need to have their teeth extracted. The 1 year old house panther Santa has it the worst by far that we can see - Dash is feral, so can’t get too close! But is he really feral? Or just suffering?
We’ve tried a variety of methods to try to help them, but no luck. Surgery was the last resort and here we are.
The estimate for the procedure for each cat is $850, plus exam ($66), labs ($71) and 2 hrs travel each way.
Please help us help #savesanta and her friends, and donate today.
