My name is Kelly. I am fundraising to help my daughter enlist a solicitor to help with an appeal or resubmission to the council for a temporary build to use as a salon.

When building the temporary build we thought we were building within the regulations for a temporary build.

The roof overhang of the build unfortunately comes forward of our property and is classed as being at the front of the property rather than the side even though it was behind the boundary of the front bay window. (We are a corner property)

We were building a temporary build anyway due to our kitchen being small and we couldn’t afford a permanent extension and when Fliss was struggling with her working environment and found herself in a difficult position, we thought it would be okay for her to continue her self employment at home and brought forward the build so that she could work and build her portfolio and build her future once college had finished.

We then received a letter when we had almost finished the build advising that we needed to apply for planning permission and also apply for change of use of the property. To which we did.

The council have refused the application on the basis that the build is

  • prominent within the street scene
  • does not leave residents (us) with enough outside space

We understand we can argue that there are lots of houses with granted permission in the area of extensions who have ended up with a lot smaller space than our garden.

We also understand that we may be able to suggest putting up a fence and changing the colour of the front cladding to a more neutral colour.

To be able to start this though we need to pay the solicitor to do the negotiating which starts at £550 + VAT.

Felicity has not had an easy start in life and she is working hard for her future. She is autistic with ADHD, she is still at college full time.

She qualified as a Nail Tech at 14 and since then has gained qualifications in various beauty applications and also paid for academy training in Level 2 & 3 hairdressing. She has also paid for the build and the set up herself by working as much as she could to fund what was needed and also used her inheritance from a close family member and child trust fund. She’s about to lose it all as the council have refused.

Felicity has built an amazing client base and many people in the area have commented on how beautiful the build is so far and how welcoming her salon looks.

If anybody has only just a £1 to spare we would be grateful so that we can at least start the ball rolling to help secure her future.
