Feichtinger Family Fights Cancer

Donation protected
Lightning struck twice! Two cancer diagnoses in two years have created enormous challenges for Kristi (Allio) and Mike Feichtinger

In 2015, Mike fought testicular cancer with surgery and radiation while working full time to support Kristi and their 9-month-old son, Will. Just one year later, Kristi's first mammogram detected an abnormality, which eventually confirmed malignancy.

In November of last year, Kristi (age 39) was diagnosed with breast cancer. When she learned that she had inherited the BRCA2 gene that significantly increased her future risk of ovarian cancer and a second breast cancer recurrence, she underwent a double mastectomy and hysterectomy within three weeks of each other, then began aggressive chemotherapy treatment near the end of February.

Medical bills this year alone total more than $165,000 and continue to climb. Mike's corporate health insurance plan covers some of those bills, but still don't offset Kristi's inability to work.

The Feichtinger's have met their maximum out-of-pocket four years in a row, and both Kristi and Mike need ongoing treatment and surgeries into 2018.  Meanwhile, normal expenses persist - like their mortgage, child care, groceries, car payments and repairs.

Kristi and Mike are both in the care of tremendous doctors at Indiana University Hospitals (Yes, some of Mike's doctors were Lance Armstrong's too). They feel very fortunate to have received so much support from their families. But now need the help of friends near and far - from Virginia Beach to Omaha, Vail to Indianapolis - to get them through this difficult time.

Please help the Feichtinger Family fight cancer by contributing to their GoFundMe goal of $50,000.

With love and in friendship,

Mike stayed strong in the face of reality.

And of course he made friends with every one of his nurses, doctors and caregivers.

Kristi co-founded The Bookworm cafe and was my partner from 2007-2013. Mike helped to build out the store with many of the finishes it has today.
