Feet For Evelyn

Donation protected
This Go Fund Me page is for my mother, Evelyn Russell.  We are trying to raise funds in order to purchase her a set of prosthetic legs. During October of 2018 she was hospitalized with an infection on her right foot. The infection was caused by a blister she hadn't realized she had, due to nerve damage in her feet caused by Diabetic Neuropathy. Doctors did what they could to clear the infection, but it wasn't looking good. They did a debridement of the wound to try to clear the infection. A short time later she was discharged and went home. She had to go back twice more for additional debridement. Eventually the wound became so large, they were scared to take any more, but also afraid the infection may not stop and spread to the bone.            After she came back home for a time, she had an accident and slipped on the back porch and broke the ankle on her left leg. She was rushed back to the hospital and the doctor decided to compress the ankle and she was then sent back home.            About two weeks later, her left ankle was causing her so much pain she had my father cut the compression off. Beneath they found that her foot had been wrapped so tightly, the flesh had turned black and started to die in places. She was put right back into the hospital.             During her stay she got incredibly sick and on December 15th 2018 she was put in the ICU with a case of Septic Shock. The doctors didnt think she would make it through the night . It was touch and go for a couple of days as the doctors tried to get her infection under control. They couldn't decide which one of her feet was causing the sepsis. Finally it was determined that the left foot was the problem, and that to get her well, they would have to amputate.                Her left foot was amputated below the knee just a day after she was cleared from the sepsis. This was not the end, however a few days later it was determined that there was no saving her right foot from the infection. She was scheduled for another amputation. On January 3rd of this year, her remaining leg was amputated just below the knee.              She stayed in the hospital for another month to facilitate healing and make sure she was safe to go home. She tried to apply for Medicare to help purchase prosthetics, but was denied.               Unfortunately, times as they are, her Social Security only pays some of the bills and my father is 64 and has to stay home to care for my mother. They cannot afford to save up for the prosthetics, and my own job handles my bills and the remainder of my parents.             We are really at a loss. Understandably the situation is just depressing for both of my parents. Her situation isn't good, and to add insult to injury she just recently lost her little companion dog suddenly. It has kind of just taken the wind completely out of her sails.               We are hoping that getting her prosthetics will maybe give her some gumption to keep going, and fight to continue to get better. As well as allow her to have a whole other way to get around and get stronger. Right now they are relying solely on a push wheel-chair. She is a wonderful, kind and caring person that has had a terrible thing happen to her. Any help that can be given would be so greatly appreciated. If anyone has further questions too, we are always happy to answer. AFTER Photo: DURING: BEFORE:
