Maui Farmers Need Your Help!

"Hawaii is dangerously dependent on imported food. As the most geographically isolated state in the country, Hawaii imports approximately 92% of its food. [In 2013] Hawaii [had] an inventory of fresh produce that would supply consumers for no more than 10 days." - Hawaii Senate Bill 937
Aloha from Brandon, Natalie, Monica and Michael.
We are four young, professional farmers who want to continue growing food for the community of Maui. Between the four of us, we have 14 years of agricultural experience. For the past two years we have been working together on an organic vegetable farm in Kula, Maui. Now we would like to further our passion and start our own organic farm together Upcountry!
We need to raise at least $10,000 for the initial startup costs of our farm. We need funds as soon as possible to begin purchasing implements and preparing to break ground. We would like to be back in the ground farming by January 2017. We will need the first three months' cost of operation while we wait for our first harvests to come in. A more complete breakdown of costs will be added soon.
Farming is our passion and our way of life! We use regenerative, low carbon methods to grow high yields of high quality, nutritious organic produce for the local community. Growing food is something we all find enjoyable and rewarding. We know the hard work required and are dedicated to providing this service to the community of Maui as our kuleana, or responsibility.
We believe farming organically by our methods creates a healthier environment for ourselves and generations to come while contributing greatly to Hawaii’s food security, a vital local economy, and the health of our community.
We are extremely thankful for the support to continue doing what we love and to perpetuate a healthy farming system that sets an example for the islands and future generations of farmers.
Aloha and mahalo!
