Feeding the birds

We are Devon Cage and Aviary Rescue, based in a beautiful valley near Newton Abbot, South Devon. We run a bird rescue service for anybody who is experiencing difficulties with caring for their birds – situations are wide and varied. We are all volunteers.
We are raising funds to help with the cost of all of the different seed types that we need to buy plus the fresh food that we give the birds.

We have many, bespoke aviaries with various rescued budgies, cockatiels, ringnecks, conures and other parakeets, quail, lovebirds, small finches ,owls, tree ducks, canaries etc. We also have specialist capacity for large parrots and other birds.

When birds come to us they stay for the rest of their lives, (we do not sell them onwards) and we aim to give them the space that they need, medical care, enrichment, love and attention and a good balanced diet of seeds plus a varied daily menu of fresh fruit and veg.

When birds first come to us they go into quarantine for 2 weeks, then they are acclimatised, and then they move into their new environment. If a sole bird comes to us we endeavour to find it a companion and we have flocks of birds in the aviaries where they can fly and behave as naturally as possible.

We also,will take in, treat and release wild, injured birds. Its not our usual actiity, but in an emergency we are here to help.
