OUR MISSION:

Primary: Provide Healthy meals made from fresh, local ingredients to local front line medical workers who are sacrificing most for the greater good of our community.

Secondary:  Through community support the money raised will be spent on high quality meals from local restaurants and local farmers via the restaurant supply chain who have been financially devastated by this virus.  We are not asking restaurants to donate the food, we want to help financially stimulate them as well.   This revenue allows restaurants to support their employees in many ways who have been laid off during this time of 75-100% reduction in business.

HOW IT WORKS:

A $20 Donation feeds (at least) one front line medical worker, one meal.   Food will be ordered  and purchased from local restaurants who will prepare individually wrapped meals to deliver to these workers in accordance with the medical facilities standards.

Hospitals we are coordinating with:  French/Dignity Health in San Luis Obispo, Arroyo Grande Hospital, CAL Fire, SLO Ambulance, MedPosts and the SLO Veterans Clinic.

Background:

The Hatch Rotisserie & Bar in Paso Robles and Novo Restaurant & Lounge in San Luis Obispo have teamed up to launch a crowd-sourced fundraiser to provide hot, delicious meals to healthcare workers in SLO County. Donations will go directly to local restaurants who will prepare and deliver meals to hospitals, doctors’ offices, clinics, and other healthcare centers around the county. To view the Gofundme, click here.

The project is spearheaded by Samantha Welch (Director of Front of House Operations at Blue Mango Management/Novo restaurant) and Maggie Cameron (Owner of The Hatch Rotisserie & Bar) who drew inspiration from regular guests who expressed interest in supporting both hard-working healthcare workers and local restaurants, both groups heavily impacted by COVID-19.

Each $20 donation feeds (at least) one healthcare worker in SLO County. The fundraising team is in contact with local hospitals and will coordinate with hospital administrators to deliver meals to groups of workers. The goal is to add to the list of participating restaurants so that revenue from the fundraiser can be spread out among locally owned businesses. The team is also soliciting feedback from donors about other impacted healthcare facilities that could benefit from meal delivery.

Welch and Cameron are both alums of the Hospitality & Tourism Management program at UMass Amherst and have called SLO County home for a decade. The COVID-19-driven closures of California restaurants spurred the women to get creative with their respective businesses, quickly pivoting the business models of both The Hatch and Novo. Fusing the need to drive revenue to their restaurants and the desire to provide support to hardworking healthcare providers during this crisis, the two brainstormed and then found inspiration from a similar fundraising model currently in operation both in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.
