Help Us Get Home! (and eat)

Hi There, I'm Kate - a horseperson who hangs with other horse people. Thursday March 16th OUR BARN FLOODED! And then again on Wednesday 22nd. TWICE! Early am and late pm.

THANK YOU SO MUCH to all who have supported us so generously.
We are closing this drive. After receiving several donations offline we have met our goal. I am leaving this up for a while so that you have a sense of what a flood can do and when you hear of one elsewhere perhaps will know more about what that actually looks like. We are deeply grateful that we were all safe. The ongoing clean up of yards, pasture and new fencing, rebuild of the protective berm will keep us busy for a while.

All the horses were safely next door, up the road a little. (Inside that little circle literally across the road.)

In spite of our best efforts between 2am-6am on Thursday 16th carrying hay out through swirling muddy rising water, a lot of hay was wet beyond rescue. Also numerous bags of feed quickly became bags of cement. Bins with supplements, basic vet supplies and so on tipped over into the water.

After the Wednesday floods, which were more destructive than the first even as we were as prepared as we could be, we went back to the trail of mud in our just cleaned barn, the layers of mud and pools of water in the stalls and the yards.

The horses are back ( even if not in their usualo places) the yards are recovering and the barn is now twice cleaned and hay coming back. We are a family of sorts, sharing the yards, the barn, the day-to-day cleaning and then the big barn and yard cleanup as the water finaly left. The toxic filthy mud had to be scraped out of the barn/stables/yards and later fresh dirt brought in for the stalls.

Hay is up to about $27 a bale, bags of good feed about the same, not to mention the supplements and emergency pain meds etc.

This call is to raise $250 (+campaign costs) per horse to help us get back on our feet and replace the lost feed, vet supplies etc. Anything you can donate will be well spent and much enjoyed by these glorious creatures who are also our best friends, therapists and daily exercise coaches.

We're getting there!

THANK YOU from the 9 equines and 5 people who love them.
