SUPPORT OUR FRONTLINE HEROES - WILTSHIRE
We are living in an unprecedented time; a war is being fought against an enemy that we can’t see, and it isn’t just us who is fighting it. The whole world is. It is when faced with the greatest adversity that ordinary people do extraordinary things. Heroes rise unsung from the woodwork, doing their bit in a fight that they know they can’t win alone, but with a fiery passion they try their damned best to. Even if it means risking their own lives. That’s what makes a true hero. And that’s what makes the NHS.
On paper it seems ridiculous; our parents and grandparents were sent to the front line to fight in horrific conditions. Some were still just teenagers when handed guns and grenades to fight for the freedom of our country. In this new fight, we are simply being told to just stay at home.
There are those that stick to the rules. There are those that flout them. And there are those who see it as an opportunity to step up.
The Old Bank in Swindon has fallen into that latter category.
Like many businesses throughout the country they have had to close their doors to the public, but not to their determined staff who have been turning up every day to make sandwiches – with money from their own pockets and some left over stock from a recently shut Gregg’s – for our healthcare workers on this new frontline.
Heartwarmed? Yes. But don’t let that be your only reaction. Do your bit. While most of us aren’t able to contribute much to these efforts, what we are ALL able to do is this: donate £1 (or more).
Every £1 donated will be used to buy the produce to continue making meals for those working 12+hour shifts at Great Western Hospital Swindon. It’s not much to ask. You’re probably making yourself something to eat right now. It might even be just a snack and a cup of tea. But that is a luxury that these men and women – upon whom some of us may have to thank our lives, and those of our families and friends, for – simply do not have.
We might not be able to fight the fight directly, but we can make it more comfortable for those that do.
