Feed Mumbai Slum Residents During Covid19 Lockdown
Donation protected

With a population of 1.3 billion people, India has been put under mandatory lockdown for 21 days. Two-thirds of the people in India live in poverty: 68.8% of the Indian population lives on less than $2 a day. This lockdown has caused a problem that is beyond the comprehension of most westerners. This lockdown obviously means that they can not work, and therefore cannot EAT, which is quickly turning into widespread panic! 80% of workers are undocumented in India, and that means that they will not receive any help from the government during this time.
Last year when I was in India, I met a kind tour guide named Ali Ansari, who showed me a side of Mumbai that I hadn't seen before, the Ambedkar Nagar slum. He himself is a resident of this particular slum, and was able to escort me through the sprawling maze of tight alleyways where thousands of families live in tiny huts, some only made of tarp. I had a tub of chocolate in hand, that I distributed to the smiling children. It was extremely heartbreaking, yet fascinating to see, particularly because everyone was so very friendly, even though they had so very little.
I have never asked for money before. I am now asking for help. Without help, they are going to starve. My business is currently closed due to coronavirus but I still donated what I could. Then I thought to use the internet for something helpful for once, and I created this gofundme.
Ali is assembling food packages for families, each which cost only $4.00 USD. Each package contains, 1kg (2.2 pounds) of rice, 1kg oil, 1kg sugar, 1kg onions, and 1kg lentils. This is enough food for a family of three to eat for TWO DAYS.
Since the lockdown, the price of food has more than doubled, because the food supply chains have been disrupted.
Please friends, considering helping if you can afford it. Anything you can contribute will be deeply appreciated by people facing immense hardships, RIGHT NOW. Imagine having an empty stomach, in the blistering heat, not knowing how you will feed your family for the foreseeable future. Your contribution could save a life.
A small bit of money will go a long way in India.
